19 December 2007 For caregivers with a tale to tell, or hard-learned advice to give:
If you're a caregiver with a few days to yourself over Christmas and fancy putting pen to paper with your story, there might be a bit of cash and glory in it for you. There's a market out there for inspirational writing and personal experiences, so consider the following publishers while you work. The links take you straight to submission guidelines:
The Healing Project, with LaChance Publishing, is looking for stories from a caregiver's perspective as well as people dealing with an illness or disorder. Deadlines are approaching for Autism and 'Caregiving' specifically, but future editions will feature Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Childhood Cancer, and Bipolar Disorder.
Chicken Soup for the Soul continually accepts stories on a variety of topics. Upcoming titles include one for the Dog Lover's Soul: what a great outlet for someone with an assistance dog! There's also one for the 'Stay at Home Mom's Soul', for those of us caring full-time.
If you can turn your personal experience into good advice or insight that others will find useful, try writing an article for the Caregivers' Home Companion: not only an excellent resource for carers, but a paying market also.
